Ghost Troop Home Page    April Fools Part 4

December 16, Email to CENTCOM Public Affairs

I am a former military intelligence and public affairs officer who volunteered to serve in Operation Desert Storm.  Now I am a journalist analyzing the military/media presentation of the war, particularly the Private Jessica psychological operation, which distracted the public from the Battle of Baghdad.

For the last eight-and-a-half months, I have been accusing Army Public Affairs and the commander-in-chief of an illegal suppression of the actual events of the Battle of Baghdad (April 5-9) to avoid “political embarrassment” – something specifically forbidden by the Defense Department Principles of Information.  Ladies and gentlemen, you are far, far out of line from both the letter and spirit of the Constitution, and it is my aim to bring you back to reality.  Here is reality:

You are conducting an illegal public affairs operation in contravention of everything you swore to uphold.  In doing so you continue to desecrated the sacrifice of our comrades who fell, obedient to their ordered mission, in the Battle of Baghdad.  You are engaged in psychological operations against the American People, not public affairs operations for them.

You are a disgrace to the uniform of your country, because you are working against your country’s Constitutional right to know the truth!  My military experience allows me to infer the reason why you are going along with the program of deceit:  You are gutless, traitorous, self-serving careerists who are hoping for another pretty ribbon or promotion after you finish screwing the American People for the White House.  You lack the courage to obey your conscience instead of illegal orders.

If I have my way about it, you’ll be liable to Congressional hearings and courts martial, and your lame-assed complaints that you were just doing your duty will last about five seconds before it’s dismissed as the same crap the German officers said at Nuremberg.

I am writing you only after initiating a process of IG investigations (various services and organizations) and receiving notification from the III Corps IG to contact you directly.  All of my allegations are now a matter of record, as is this email.  Hundreds of media, military and Congressional leaders are reading right along with you.

I have written a book, pending publication, called “April Fools, Captain May,” comprised of my essays, letters and emails since April 1, when I wrote an op-ed for the Houston Chronicle predicting the kind of “quicksand” war we have entered (not the blissful blitz we were promised).  We were all fools to jump into the quicksand – and we were fooled yet more thanks to you.

My assertions of a cover-up of the Battle of Baghdad are not based on speculation.  I saw the CNN live broadcast of pre-dawn, April 5, at the airport, and inferred the rest (supported by indicator after indicator after indicator…).  I caught the cover-up, but didn’t complain immediately because I believed your actions (at first) were a part of legitimate operational security.  It wasn’t until April 8 that I self-mobilized in accordance with my oath to defend the Constitution, because by then it was clear that the commander in chief was abusing public affairs.

I went and collected relief funds for the 3/7 Cavalry and 3rd ID for forty hours in Houston Texas, heart of American patriotism.  The public, of course, had no idea of the heroic sacrifice of our comrades, and gave me a total of twenty dollars (50 cents per hour) to succor the widows and orphans.  Are you proud of the quality of your psychological operation against your countrymen and comrades now?

I attach my brief essay, widely circulated and published on the web, explaining what I saw, felt and did – while you were disobeying your oaths of commissioning.  Boys and girls, I hope I’ll soon have the pleasure of meeting you at a Congressional hearing, and visiting you at Leavenworth.

With much-deserved disrespect, on behalf of America, from a loyal officer,

Captain Eric H. May, MI, USA

PS:  Should you wish to corroborate any details of my assertions, I suggest you call my best man, Chase Untermeyer, former Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Thom Shanker, NY Times chief Pentagon correspondent, or David Langworthy, my op-ed editor at the Houston Chronicle.  They’re listed in the "To" and "Cc" lines above, and I believe they will be as interested as the hundreds of Bcc’s in your side of the unstory of the Battle of Baghdad.

PPS:  Pass this letter along to Boy George (your gang leader) for me – and here are a few of my other pen-pals:
