September 22, email to C-Span & Atlantic Monthly

I am enjoying your conversation with Atlantic Monthly Senior Editor Joshua Green, who is clearly well connected with the campaign of General Wesley Clark.  I believe that now is an appropriate time to ask whether General Clark believes he did the right thing in collaborating with his employer, CNN, to maintain silence on the Battle of Baghdad (for which they substituted the Pvt. Jessica hoax).  As a former Army public affairs officer, it seems to me that initially the diversion of media focus away from an ongoing battle was a good idea, but the time for silence is long gone.

To be specific, Gen. Clark was on the news desk as an expert when the 3/7 Cavalry was attacked at the Baghdad Airport at 9:30 p.m. Eastern, April 4, 2003.  He exited CNN rather quickly afterwards (a week later, I believe), citing the word "objective" several times.  I thought the phrase very telling:  Clark was saying that the coverage had not been very objective at all, wasn't he?  I attach the Department of Defense guidelines for military/media relations.  I believe we are no longer in compliance with it, therefore with the Constitution.  Have you and the general discussed any of this?

Regards, Captain Eric May

PS:  I attach a file that is currently with the Radical Press.  It will elaborate my particulars should you wish to examine it.
