September 4, LTC John

I’m sorry about my temper, brother.  Please accept my apologies.  God, I only wish you could understand how I feel.  We have betrayed ourselves, and I saw it happen.  Please don’t tell me I’m the only one in public affairs who cried for the 3/7 and the 3rd ID.  I’m crying now.  Ain’t it sad?

Y’all please do your duty:  If I’m wrong, put me in touch with LTC Terry Ferrell.  I rode a thousand miles to take twenty dollars donation money to his command, and gave Colonel Dennington a scarf from Mrs. May to give to his wife.  Isn’t that the way they trained us to act, sir?  Am I not doing my duty, sir?

If I’m right, then you must contact Congress.  I’ve done it myself, when my CG was filtering money for urban kids into weekend warrior get-togethers.  It cost me my position on the general staff, but it was the only thing to do, as I saw it.

Tell the ladies that I don’t want ‘em in the book.  I don’t want any of you.  You are my team, you are America’s team, so why are you doing this?

Captain Eric Holmes May

Commander, Ghost Troop, 3/7 Cavalry

PS:  I await legitimate orders, in conformance with the Constitution, telling me that it is not my sworn duty to be in a state of revolt against tyranny. [Editor’s emphasis] I self-mobilized, in conformance with my oath to my country, on April 8, 2003, after giving the commander in chief three OPSEC days to steady the situation.  When I saw that he would not do so, and that he was going about business without leveling with America, I had no choice.  My only weapons will continue to be my words.  The country will remember us according to our adherence to our oath.  I'll attach the letter I sent West Point after the letter I just sent the ladies.  Again, my apologies.  You can't imagine how much it hurts me to have to oppose the service to which I gave most of my years.
