July 28, letter to Great Grandmaster Yu Yong Kyu

Dear Master Yu,

Please accept my apology for missing the school tournament, and my apology for missing class last week. I am away writing a book, but hope to return by September 1. While I am away I will continue to practice my forms, weapons and breaking techniques. I will be careful not to break any more bones. I hope to return a better black belt than when I left. Please accept the enclosed bill as a gift for Miju.

PS to Cadet Miju Yu: I’m sorry I missed seeing you come from West Point. It seems like just yesterday that we were out getting you in shape for your plebe year. Has it really been two years? I hope things over in Iraq will be finished before you graduate. Enjoy your vacation.
