Ladies and gentlemen, I was quite affected by your press conference on C-SPAN Wednesday, and believe that you know more than you were able to mention in that venue. Candidly, I believe that some of the things you are alluding to were frightening to the media who were there, because they are under directions to put the best possible face on the war.
I am a former Army intelligence and public affairs officer who has put a considerable amount of time into reading through the media stories into the reality behind things. I was recently at the Peace House in Crawford, and you can ask Kay, Paul or Doc about me, Captain May. I have attached a series of essays, both published (by the Houston Chronicle) and unpublished. The unpublished ones are probably right on target, but the public isn't close to being able to read them.
I have also attached letters I have written to Thom Shanker of the New York Times, and to the president. What I have sent will take half and hour to read and half a month to digest, but, on my word as an American officer, I believe every word of it to be true. God bless you all for what you’re doing.
