August 7, email to Toby Hershaw, New York Times

It was great talking to you.  I’m glad you guys are getting fired up over there.  Any enemy of the current war leadership is a friend of mine.  I’m also glad you said that nothing I could write would scare you.  I was hoping you’d say that.

Below you’ll find five essays.  They all relate to Iraq, and they are all straight from the front lines of the Infowar.  The Chronicle is always interested in my stuff, but they’re chicken since the Infowar heated up with the death of David Kelly.  Call me and let me know if the Times is interested in any of these.  I don’t want to waste your time if you’re not, and I’d like to keep looking for a paper that is.

PS:  Please give my compliments to your new editor.  I’ve already asked Thom Shanker to say hi, but I never know what he’s doing.  I call Thom tovarisch pisatel.  It’s a Cold War joke for Russian speakers.  I’ve attached the email I sent him three weeks ago.  He agreed with its premises.  I wonder if you will…

Adios, amigo
