July 10, email to Steve Wasserman, KPRC TV, NBC, Post, Newsweek

General Manager, KPRC (NBC)

Hey, Steve.  You canned me from Post/Newsweek for getting Carl Lewis’ age wrong by four years.  How is it that the whole media can be missing hundreds of casualties?  Did you guys think that the makers of Vietnam wouldn’t monkey with the body count?  Hey, is the media continuing to demonstrate what it means by “embedded?”  Maybe the Army will come out with a “Good Embed” medal for the folks who have put out so consistently for the Bush Team.  It’s one of the decorations I won’t be able to add to mine, I’m afraid.

Below is sheer dynamite, the best allegation since Watergate.  Please pass it on to Post/Newsweek or anyone in the profession of journalism who still remembers how to ask questions to get at the truth.

Captain May

PS:  If I’m right, can I write editorials for you again?  (Just kidding, although you do turn a phrase pretty well for a TV guy…)  By the way, I’d be happy to explain the “Lazarus Battalion” of people who were counted as dead before but have now ceased to be so?  How about giving me 60 seconds to express my viewpoint?  I promise not to mention that I delivered my essay about the 3/7 Cavalry to your newsroom in April…
