August 8, email to Wendy Schroell, KPFT, Pacifica

Dear Ms. Schroell,

Thanks for talking with me again yesterday.  I’m flattered that you remembered me from April.  I think the Private Jessica thing has everyone listening more seriously to me now, but I’ll tell you the truth, home girl:  They’re scared of the truth now, because the truth is that people who have gotten in the way of the military/media campaign are getting killed.  Al Jazeera folks have been killed in both Afghanistan and Baghdad, along with other less prominent non-embedded media.  David Kelly got killed in England for talking to the media.  It’s war now, whether we like it or not, and our senior media officers are a bunch of Benedict Arnolds.

Hell, who am I talking to?  Didn’t you guys get bombed back in the 1970’s?  That bare fact means more to me than all the other talk that comes over your airwaves.  That bare fact means I respect your station.  You guys know that life can be iffy when you’re in the truth business, especially if the big guys and government have lined up on the other side in a paranoid post-911 country.

Thanks for hearing me out and giving me contacts along the way.  Mainstream media (even mainstream left media) are too timid to take my allegations seriously.  Remember, it took the media and the Congress years to shut down McCarthy, who was riding the whirlwind of anti-communist paranoia.  I’ll bet you no one in media, for ten thousand dollars, would dare to ask Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney or George W. Bush how many deaths we suffered in the battle of Baghdad.  I’ll bet everyone in the know knows that the Bush Team and the Blair Team are the same team, and that the fix is in against the truth, and that people who forget that have ended up dead.  In that kind of climate, is there really any alternative media now?

The best thing I’ve seen printed since the war began was an editorial in a Spanish-language newspaper that my Central American neighbor gave me.  I had a hard time reading it, but the gist of it was simply that the American media had become a propaganda machine intent on mobilizing public opinion for war.  Walter Lipman understood it when he wrote his post-WWI classic, Public Opinion; George Orwell understood it when he wrote his post WWII classic, 1984.  I’m just trying to go them one better by writing my classic on mind control as it’s happening.

I’ll keep plugging away on my own, but I’m hoping what I’ve sent you will give you ideas to further the cause of peace.  I hope you find the essays interesting.

Captain May
